This is a farm tour with a focus on artisan ice cream making. Meet the cows who produce the milk and cream to make the ice cream. John will tell you his story of how he diversified into producing ice cream in 2019. Listen to the story of how the idea for making ice cream evolved and the challenges and wins along the way. See behind the scenes of our ice cream production. Afterwards, enjoy a scoop of the award-winning ice cream in the old farm cottage. Muckross Creamery is based on the Fleming dairy farm set against the majestic backdrop of the Torc and Mangerton mountains in Muckross, Killarney, County Kerry. Located just 5km from the bustling town of Killarney, this family owned dairy farm is run by 5th generation dairy farmer John Fleming and his family. Meet John and see what life is like to live and work as a dairy farmer in Ireland. Meet the friendly cows whose milk and cream is used to create award-winning ice cream while gaining valuable insights on farming life. Learn how farming has evolved through the generations with the changes in milking technology. Finish with a cup of tea and a home-made scone in the original 200 year old family home. This is a true authentic experience and an opportunity to meet the makers of the award winning Muckross Creamery ice-cream. There is plenty of opportunity to get up close to the animals and experience the process it takes to produce Muckross Creamery’s range of ice-cream. You will have an opportunity to visit the farms pop up ice cream parlour for a large scoop of ice cream, made fresh from the milk of the cows you have seen. …a must-see destination for all locals and tourists to the area! We’re real dairy farmers so unfortunately our pop-up ice cream parlour isn’t open every day. We are currently open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm-6pm. Be sure to check back here for up to date opening hours. Time: 2 hours Tea/Coffee on arrival, Ice cream at the end of the tour Wellingtons and farm overalls are provided.
